How we can support employers and OHS teams

Place of Dreams can work alongside workplace health and occupational health programs by providing:

Workforce education

Practical education sessions covering:

  • What sleep apnoea is
  • Why it matters beyond snoring
  • Early signs and symptoms
  • What screening results mean
  • What happens after a worker is referred
  • Modern PAP therapy and treatment options
  • Supporting workers who are struggling with therapy

Assessment pathways

Helping provide a clear pathway from identified risk through to appropriate sleep assessment.

Treatment support

Supporting employees who have been diagnosed with sleep apnoea and require assistance establishing or maintaining effective therapy.

Therapy and compliance reviews

Reviewing PAP therapy effectiveness, equipment, mask comfort and other barriers that may affect successful treatment.

A practical resource for your workforce

We believe screening is only one part of the process.

Identification → Assessment → Diagnosis → Treatment → Support → Review

A worker may be identified as being at risk, but meaningful health outcomes depend on what happens next.

The process: What happens after you are flagged?

Step 1 — Screening

A workplace or health assessment identifies potential risk factors for sleep apnoea.

You are not diagnosed at this stage.

Step 2 — Further assessment

Depending on the assessment requirements and your individual circumstances, you may be referred for further clinical assessment and/or an overnight sleep study.

Step 3 — Sleep study

Your sleep is monitored to determine whether sleep apnoea or another sleep-related condition is present.

The study can provide information about what is happening while you sleep, including breathing and oxygen levels.

Step 4 — Results and diagnosis

Your results are reviewed by the appropriate clinician or specialist.

At this point, you may:

  • Have no significant sleep disorder identified
  • Be diagnosed with mild, moderate or severe sleep apnoea
  • Require further investigation
  • Be found to have another sleep-related issue

Step 5 — Treatment, if required

Treatment is based on your individual diagnosis and circumstances.

For many people, PAP therapy is an effective treatment option. Other treatment pathways may also be appropriate.

Step 6 — Support and review

Starting treatment is not the end of the process.

Mask comfort, pressure tolerance, leaks, dry mouth and changing work or travel conditions can all affect how successfully someone manages therapy.

This is where ongoing support matters.

Already diagnosed with sleep apnoea?

You don't necessarily need another diagnosis. You may need better support.

We regularly see workers who have already:

✓ Completed a sleep study
✓ Been diagnosed with OSA
✓ Started PAP therapy

…but are still struggling.

Common issues include:

  • Mask discomfort
  • Mask leaks
  • Dry mouth
  • Difficulty tolerating pressure
  • Removing the mask during the night
  • Poor sleep while using PAP
  • Shift work
  • Travel and remote work
  • Therapy compliance concerns

Don't assume you have to simply put up with it.

Many PAP problems can be improved with the right review and support.

[Book a PAP Therapy Review]

Already on therapy and need a compliance and therapy report?

Being asked to provide a PAP compliance or therapy report can sometimes be more complicated than simply downloading information from your machine.

The type of documentation required may depend on:

  • Why the report is being requested
  • Whether you are continuing with your current employer
  • Whether you are starting with a new employer
  • Whether you are commencing a new role
  • When you were last reviewed by a sleep physician
  • The specific requirements of your employer or occupational health provider

If you're continuing in your current role

If you have not changed employer or are not commencing a new position, a current PAP compliance and therapy report from Place of Dreams may often provide the information required.

We can review your therapy data and provide information about your PAP usage and treatment.

However, requirements can vary, so we recommend confirming exactly what documentation your employer or occupational health provider requires.

Starting a new job or changing employers?

The process may be different if you are undergoing assessment for a new employer or new position.

In some circumstances, particularly if you have not been reviewed by a sleep physician within the previous five years, the occupational health process may require a current review and report from a sleep physician.

This doesn't mean you need to start the entire process again.

How Place of Dreams can help

We work closely with experienced sleep physicians and can help make the process as straightforward as possible.

Step 1 — Contact Place of Dreams

Let us know what documentation has been requested and provide us with the requirements from your employer or occupational health provider, if available.

Step 2 — We review and gather your therapy information

We will arrange a face-to-face review to gather the relevant information from your PAP therapy, including the data required to demonstrate how your treatment is being used and how it is performing.

Step 3 — We prepare the information for the physician

Where a sleep physician review is required, we can compile the relevant therapy information and supporting data to assist with the specialist review.

Step 4 — Obtain a GP referral

You will still need to see your GP to obtain a referral to the sleep physician.

Step 5 — Sleep physician review

The sleep physician will review your clinical history and the available therapy information and determine whether they can provide the documentation or report required.

The important thing to remember

Place of Dreams can help with the data, therapy review and preparation—but a sleep physician must complete and sign off on any specialist report or assessment that requires their clinical authority.

If you're unsure what type of report you need, contact our team before your deadline.

We can help you understand the likely pathway and gather the information needed to make the process as smooth as possible.
